well, au revoir my xanga friends.
this experiment with dual-blogging has been.....fun, but in the end, all the strictly linear comments, debates on whether or not to eprop, pages with LOUD MUSIC, aNd PeOPle WhO TyPe LyKE diS, scared me off.

while the "currently listening/watching/reading" thing is cool, i think i'm gonna stick to my livejournal. but at least y'all know where to find me.  and besides, at least LIVEJOURNAL allows anonymous comments.....multiple user pics, access to peepz friends lists, more intuitive interface, better userinfo pages. etc etc. etc. ps. xanga stalker is evil.

I'm not really sure what possessed me this weekend, but I saw 5 movies in 5 days.Starting with Thursday, I watched: Unleashed, Crash, Star Wars, Saving Face, and Mad Hot Ballroom.it's a good thing i've got class tonight, otherwise i'd be forced to go see Monster In Law or some shit.

I'm happy to say, with the exception of Crash (which was much worse than unleashed), each movie got progressively better.

saving face: was really good. while i thought that the movie might have been stronger had they focused only on the mother/daughter story, or the love story between the two leads, the movie was overall entertaining. it's nice to see an asian american movie that...while talking about our community...doesn't shove its identity down your throat.

mad hot ballroom: oh man. this movie was AWESOME. go watch it. but fellaz, if you're gonna go..i'd take a date. or go alone. not really a movie to watch /w your boyz. but yeah, it was really..uh. cute. yeah.

ps. for those keeping count, i have officially contributed $110 to hollywood's coffers.
pps. one of the most refreshing things about the movies i watched was that the best two movies (saving face & mad hot ballroom) were not the huge hollywood blockbusters that are so overhyped these days. rather, i'm thinking they probably had the smallest budgets of the bunch. it's amazing what a little creativity will accomplish :)

ok. so i hope y'all will benefit from my stupidity and NOT see the two movies that i've seen in the past 24 hrs.

1) Unleashed - Jet Li's american movies SUCK. Somebody said that this might be his best american movie, and I actually think that mayybe just maybe "Romeo Must Die" was better than this. If you want to see a real Jet Li movie, go check out "Once Upon A Time in China" or "Legend," among others. I think Once Upon a Time in China is my personal favorite.

2) Crash - suffice it to say that I felt like screaming throughout the entire movie. While I'm glad that someone is trying to at least make a movie that discusses some of the racial issues in this beautiful city...the messages that this film was putting out were totally problematic to me. things were completely oversimplified, characters were shallow, cliched, and often stereotypical...and finally, to paraphrase my good friend gl, i felt like it was trying to justify racism. basically telling people "look, everybody else is racist, so go ahead and do what you're gonna do. cuz in the end it doesn't really matter." and while mle didn't really believe me, i think it was a fucked up version of "I <3 huckabees." and to make matters worse, people actually applauded this piece of shit movie at the end. *YAY DIVERSITY!* </sarcasm>

heh.
yeah so i hope the rest of this weekend is better.
